The plan
Majority of guests were arriving in the afternoon by scheduled flights from all over Europe. The main volume of arrivals in Mykonos were between 18.00 to 21.00.
The challenge
At around 19.30 a big unexpected storm is over the island and the flights cannot land at the small airport of Mykonos.
The fact
- At 21.30, 220 guests have land at the Athens airport instead of Mykonos airport due to weather conditions.
- Athens run a World Medical Congress and all the hotels are fully booked and available rooms are in very high rates.
- Around 380 guests are waiting in Mykonos to start the welcome party
- The CEO of the company is based in USA and the European Managers are unable to take a quick decision
The case study
At 21.00 – the MD of EVENT MAKERS DMC, is checking the weather forecast realizing that it was a summer storm that passed. Immediately we deposit & chartered 2 flights with own costs and without waiting a cost approval by the client.
By waiting a cost approval , we were loosing the 2 time slots that Athens airport had available to give us and the clients should have overnight at the airport of Athens. We risked to pay a big amount of money in order to bring the clients to the final destination.
The Result
At 22.30 all clients were in Mykonos joining their colleagues for the welcome party with only affect 2 hours delay of the program!
